PMC is excited to announce the addition of Dr. Julie McKibben and North Alabama Worker’s Care
Parkway Medical Center is excited to announce the addition of Dr. Julie McKibben and North Alabama Worker’s Care, Morgan County’s new fulltime Occupational Medicine Service for Decatur and Morgan County.
“We wanted to be able to offer a comprehensive program to the businesses in our community that will help prevent illness and injury and hopefully educate people on how to maintain good health,” said Tim McGill, Chief Executive Officer of Parkway.
Dr. Julie McKibben, board certified Occupational Medicine physician, comes to Parkway as a US Navy veteran relocating from Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband and 2 children. “A comprehensive occupational and environmental medicine program is a great avenue to foster collaboration between business/industry and healthcare which results in a net gain for all and I am pleased to have the opportunity to practice here in Morgan County,” said Dr. McKibben.
Occupational Medicine is the specialty of Preventive Medicine specifically devoted to prevention and management of occupational and environmental injury, illness and disability, and promotion of health and productivity of workers, their families, and communities.
Occupational medicine was previously identified as “industrial medicine.” This term was used when heavy industry employed physicians to provide acute medical and surgical care for employees. By the 1940’s the medical programs had spread to all types of businesses and organizations including clerical and service employees.
Today, the complexity and pervasiveness of modern industrial processes afford occupational medicine physicians the opportunity to address work site and community health and policy issues such as atmospheric pollution, product safety, health promotion, and benefits value management.
“Occupational and environmental medicine offers unlimited challenges and opportunities and I am excited to be a part of what Parkway is doing for the community,” said Dr. McKibben.
